Chocolate cake this good that’s plant-based, too??? It’s the perfect celebration cake, even if all you’re celebrating is having a delicious chocolate cake to eat!
Ingredients
Cake
- 180 grams (1-1/2 cups) plain flour
- 100 grams (1 cup) sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda (bread soda)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 5 tablespoons sunflower oil
- 240 milliliters (1 cup) water
Simply Fudgy Frosting
- 115 grams (1/2 cup) Naturli or any other vegan butter
- 75 milliliters (1/3 cup) plant milk of your choice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 65 grams (2/3 cup) cocoa powder
- 360 grams (3 cups) powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Lightly grease and flour a 9 inch round cake pan.
- Whisk the dry ingredients together in a bowl.
- Add the vanilla, vinegar, oil, and water. Gently mix. A few lumps are okay—if you overmix the batter, the cake will be tough.
- Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 25 minutes. Test by poking a toothpick or knife into the center. If it comes out gooey, bake for another 8-10 minutes.
- While cooling, prepare frosting by melting the vegan butter in the microwave or on the stove.
- Whisk in the milk and vanilla, then the cocoa and sugar.
- Add more sugar to thicken or more milk to thin the frosting to a glaze.
- Wait for cake to cool fully before frosting.
